The course is designed for seafarers seeking to enhance their knowledge of Maritime English and English grammar essential for shipboard operations.

Approach

The course offers a comprehensive exploration of Maritime English, equipping the partipants with the vocabulary and language skills essential for effective communication across various maritime contexts. The curriculum covers critical vocabulary related to ship operations, navigation, and cargo handling, as well as phrases applicable to emergency situations and port operations, thereby enriching learners' linguistic repertoire. Through interactive exercises, practical examples, and simulated scenarios, the course fosters a dynamic learning experience. Participants will practice and reinforce their understanding of Maritime English in real-world situations, enabling them to communicate confidently and accurately in their maritime roles. They will become familiar with the standard maritime vocabulary used in both internal and external communication on board, ensuring efficient communication without misunderstandings. By the end of the course, the participants are comfortable communicating in English during various operational scenarios, whether in routine daily operations or extraordinary circumstances such as emergencies.

Performance monitoring   

  • 2 hours written final exam: 40%. Oral exam: 40%.
  • Simulator Exam: 20%

Placement test: A placement test consists of a personal interview (max. 15 min) and grammar exercises.
